Malachi 3:17-18
In Malachi’s day, the people questioned God’s love. Yes, He had allowed them to return to their land, but the city was in ruins, and they faced many years of hard work in rebuilding their lives.
God spoke through the prophet, saying: “I have loved you.” But the people still questioned Him: “How have you loved us?” (Malachi 1:2) In their depression, they needed to see God’s love in action.
Have you ever questioned God’s love? When the issues of life seem to be robbing of us of life, or when the unexpected happens and we are caught off guard, or even when our dreams and desires are not fully accomplished, even though we have worked hard and trusted God, are we not prone to wonder if God loves us?
In Malachi 3:17, God said, “On the day when I act, I will spare them as parents spare their children.” There are times when our children “doubt” our love, especially when everything doesn’t go their way. But we don’t abandon them when they question our love, we just wait until they put aside their selfishness long enough to see it!
