In order to appreciate what God has done for you in saving you from your sins, let’s review His plan for your redemption and how you received it.
Inspiration—God’s Grace Scripture Reading—Ephesians 2:1-10
- How does Paul describe a man without Christ?
-
- “dead in trespasses and sin; walking according to the world”
- “fulfilling his own pleasures
- Paul said that a man without Christ:
-
- Formerly walked in the course of the world.
- Formerly lived in sin.
- And was dead in his trespasses and sins.
- But God mad us alive.
-
- Being rich in mercy.
- Because of God’s great love.
- So we have been saved:
-
- By grace
- Through faith
- It is a gift from God, not the results of our good works
- Now we should:
-
- Walk in good works
- Because we are His workmanship
Application—Repent
- Write a brief sentence that describes how you formerly walked and formerly lived before you received Christ as your Savior and Lord.
- Memorize Romans 6:23
-
- Mercy—I don’t get what I do deserve
- Grace—I do get what I don’t deserve
- What do you deserve as a result of your sin? Death
- What did you get as a result of God’s grace? Eternal life in Christ
- Personalize Ephesians 2:8-10 by inserting your name or a reference to you in the blanks!
“For by grace I have been saved through faith, and that not of myself; it was a gift from God, not as a result of my works, that I should boast. For I am His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that I should walk in them”
Application—Return
- Pray, thanking God for His grace. Sing or recite the words to “Amazing Grace” as a prayer unto God.
- Show God’s grace to someone today by giving them something they do not deserve.
