The Just Shall Live by Faith

“The Behavior Between Believers” – Part Two Romans 15:1-13

Date:March 12, 2025
Author: Wayne J. Edwards

Introduction:

A spirit-empowered church is not manifested by the congregation’s size or by the loudness of its singing. A true, Holy-Spirit empowered church is revealed by the believers’ unity.

In a world that is as fragmented and divided as ours, where no one seems to be able to agree with anyone about anything and some people can’t stand to be around those with whom they disagree, to be able to witness the unity of a fellowship of believers in their worship of God would be a powerful testimony of the power of the gospel to transform lives.

  •  “Be “eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” (Eph. 4:3).
  • “I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment” (1 Cor. 1:10).
  • “By this, all people will know that you are my disciples,” said Jesus, “if you have love for one another” (John 13:35).

Tonight at 6:00 PM, we will continue our study of Paul’s incredible letter to the Christians in Rome. In this sermon, we will examine Romans 15:1-13 under the heading: “The Behavior Between Believers.”

“The Behavior Between Believers” – Part Two
Romans 15:1-13

“Behold how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell in unity! It is like the precious oil upon the head, running down on the beard, the bear of Aaron, running down on the edge of his garments. It is like the dew of Hermon, descending upon the mountains of Zion; for there the Lord commanded the blessing – life forevermore.”
Psalm 133 KJV

Five Marks of a Strong Fellowship Within the Church.

  • The strong bear the weaknesses of the weak – vs 1-3
    • By not pleasing ourselves, but pleasing others for their good.
    • By following the pattern of Christ in our attitudes as well as actions.
  • Everyone studies the Scriptures – vs 4
    • The consistent study of the Scriptures gives the church:
      • Patience – to wait upon God.
      • Comfort – while we are waiting.
      • Hope – to endure to the end.
  • Everyone works for harmony vs 5-6
    • To become spiritually minded – having the same attitude toward each other.
    • To be able to glorify God with one mind and one voice – no disharmony.
  • Everyone accepts one another without discrimination – vs 7-1
    • Follow the pattern of Christ who:
      • Ministered to the Jews, to confirm the promise made to them.
      • Ministered to the Gentiles so they would glorify God for His mercy toward them.
  • Everyone is filled by the God of hope – vs 13
    • Not with division and malice.
    • But with joy and peace.
    • And the Source of this ability is the Holy Spirit.
