Nisan 17 – From Sunset Saturday to Sunset Sunday – resurrection morning – the first day of the week
-
- Matthew 28:1-6 – “In the end of the Sabbath (Sat) as it began to dawn on the first day of the week, (Sun) came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary (mother of Jesus), to the sepulcher, and behold there was a great earthquake, for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled the stone from the door, and sat upon it, his countenance was like lightning, and his raiment was white as snow, and for fear of him the keepers (soldiers) did shake and became a dead man. And the angel answered and said unto the women, fear not ye, for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here, for he is risen as he said.”
Once again, truth trumps tradition! Tradition says Jesus resurrected from the grave at sunrise on Sunday morning, but that isn’t what the Scriptures teach! Matthew said when the women arrived at the tomb Sunday morning, it was open, and Jesus was gone! Why? Because from just before 6:00 PM Wednesday to just before 6:00 PM Saturday is three days and three nights, and that’s all He needed to prove He was the Messiah sent from God.
Think about what this means today!
-
- The essential proof that Jesus was the Messiah was not His immaculate conception, His mighty miracles, His marvelous messages, or His amazing ministries, but the fact that He remained in the tomb three days and three nights, just as Jonah was in the whale.
- In other words, if Jesus was resurrected before three days and three nights, or later than three days and three nights, He would have been disqualified to be the Savior sent from God.
