The Book of Daniel
“Daniel’s Vision of the Future”
Daniel 10:1-12:13

Wayne J. Edwards

The Book of Daniel covers the prophetic timeframe from 612 BC to the Millennium. His prophecy offers the most comprehensive revelation of the future.

  • Daniel was God’s mouthpiece to His people, assuring them, that even though He had allowed them to go through the times of tribulation, it was not for their destruction but for their deliverance.
  • As we see the rise of persecution of Christians and Jews around the world, rather than being discouraged, Christians should be encouraged, because just as the darkest hour of the night is just before dawn, the increasing darkness and distress of the world only means our Deliverer is about to dawn.

I am God, and there is no one like Me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things which have not been done, saying, ‘My purpose will be established, And I will accomplish all My good pleasure!”
Isaiah 46:9-10

1. The Vision of the Glory of Christ – Daniel 10:1-11:1

Daniel retreated to the bank of the Tigris River to observe the Hebrew feasts of Passover and Unleavened Bread. While he was there, God revealed something to him that moved him so much that he fasted for three weeks.

  • Daniel saw “a man” standing before him, dressed in white linen – the apparel of a priest.
  • When compared with John’s description of the “Son of Man”, (Revelation 1:13-16), it is clear that Daniel saw a “Christophany” – the physical appearance of the Son of God in the Old Testament.
  • Daniel had grown from hearing from God through dreams, vision and revelations from angels, to having a personal encounter with the pre-incarnate Christ, the very Son of God.
  • Daniel said the “Man” touched him, and gave him strength to hear and to comprehend the message he was about to receive.

PRINCIPLES OF SPIRITUAL WARFARE

  • The spiritual conflict between God and Satan began in the Garden of Eden and will continue until Satan is cast into the lake of fire.
  • That spiritual conflict will continue to surface between men and nations until this age is over.
  • Satan uses “tools of darkness” to accomplish his mission to diffuse the efficacy of God’s Word.

2. The Vision of the Anti-Christ – Daniel 11:2-45

The “Times of the Gentiles” is the period of history covered by the Book of Daniel, especially in Daniel 11:2-45.

  • What Daniel saw in prophecy has been, and is being lived out in human history, and we are living in the final years.
  • Man’s inhumanity to man will increase as man’s efforts to establish world peace only result in more wars, until the whole world is in complete chaos.

3. The Vision of the Coming of Christ – Daniel 12:1-13

The Great Tribulation:

  • At some point after the Rapture of the Church, the Antichrist will emerge and as the ruler of the world and make a seven-year “peace covenant” with Israel.
  • After 3 ½ years of “enforced” peace, the Antichrist will turn against Israel, exalt himself above all gods and demand to be worshipped as God.
  • He will lead the world to come against the Jews in Israel during the last 3 ½ years of the tribulation.
  • In Matthew 24, Jesus referred to this time as the Great Tribulation.

At the end Great Tribulation, Jesus will return with His saints to the Mount of Olives and establish His kingdom upon this earth as it is now in heaven.

  • He will destroy the Antichrist with the breath of His mouth and the brightness of His glory. (Rev. 20:1-3)
  • The Antichrist, and those who took the mark of the beast, or worshipped the beast, will be cast into the lake of fire, burning with brimstone. (Rev. 19:11-19)

The Future Resurrection(s):

  • The first resurrection was the physical resurrection of Jesus from the grave. (Luke 24:6, 1 Cor. 15:23)
  • The second resurrection will be of those who received Jesus Christ during the Church Age, but died before the Rapture. (1 Cor. 15:12-58, 1 Thess. 4:13-17)
  • The third resurrection (Daniel 12:2a) will be at the end of the Tribulation, when all those who received Christ during the Tribulation, along with the Old Testament Saints will be resurrected to reign with Christ in the Millennium. (Rev. 20:4)
  • The final resurrection (Daniel 12:2b) will be at the end of the Millennium, as every unbeliever will stand before the Great White Throne judgment of God, and attempt to explain why they did not receive Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord. (Rev. 20:5a, 11-14)

The Glorious Illumination:

  • Those who live in the righteousness of Jesus Christ and lead others to receive Christ as their Savior will shine like the stars of heaven for eternity.

The Eternal Commendation:

  • Daniel was told to “seal up the vision” and go his way. He would soon die but be raised at the end of the Tribulation to receive his rewards.
