The Just Shall Live by Faith

“Paul’s Passion for His People” Romans 11:1-36

Date:February 19, 2025
Author: Wayne J. Edwards

Introduction:

Those who believe in what is called “Replacement Theology” believe that the Church has taken Israel’s place in God’s plan for the redemption of lost man. This view not only contradicts the Word of God, it also undermines the God of the Word and, in effect, calls Him a liar. By claiming that Israel has been abandoned, this Satanically inspired, man-generated theology questions the unconditional nature of God’s promises to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in Genesis 12:1-3 and Genesis 17:7-8.

Beloved, if God were to forsake Israel, He would contradict His own declaration of faithfulness. In Malachi 3:6, God is quoted as saying: “For I am the Lord, I do not change.”

God’s faithfulness to Israel is a testimony of His faithfulness to all His promises. If He abandoned Israel, how could we trust Him to keep His promises to the Church? Thankfully, God’s character is unchanging, and His Word is true.

Tonight at 6:00 PM, we will continue our study of Paul’s incredible letter to the Christians in Rome. In this sermon, we will examine Romans 11:1-36 and Jeremiah 31:31-37. The title of tonight’s sermon is: “Paul’s Passion for His People.”

The Just Shall Live by Faith
“Paul’s Passion for His People”
Romans 11:1-36

The New Testament teaches that the nation of Israel is presently BLINDED from the truth.

  • They are blinded SPIRITUALLY because of their rejection of Jesus Christ as the Messiah.
  • They are blinded JUDICIALLY because they are under the judgment of God for their unbelief.

One day the veil over their hearts shall be LIFTED (2 Cor. 3:16)

  • They will be able to UNDERSTAND the good news of the Kingdom (Matt. 24:14) and
  • They will not only be able to be SAVED, but God will use 144,000 of them to EVANGELIZE the world, and a great MULTITUDE will believe in Jesus and be converted, proving their faith by their death.

1. There is a Remnant – 11:1-10

  • PAUL was a part of that remnant
  • GOD said there would be a remnant
  • ELIJAH foresaw the remnant
  • GOD’S grace assures a remnant

2. There will be a Restoration – 11:11-16

  • Israel’s REJECTION opened salvation to all Gentiles.
  • The Gentiles ACCEPTANCE of Jesus Christ is to make Israel jealous
  • The CASTING away of Israel brought reconciliation to the world.
  • The RESTORATION of Israel will bring the great climax of history.

3. There is a Reminder – 11:17-24

  • The condition of Israel is a WARNING to all men, and all nations of the world:
    • Do not be ARROGANT about grace
    • Fear COMPLACENCY and
    • Discern between the goodness and the severity of God:
      • He was SEVERE to those who fell
      • He was GOOD to those who remained steadfast.

4.  There will be a Revelation – 11:25-36

  • God’s DELIVERER will come
  • God’s PLAN for the world will be done
    • No man can GRASP God’s plan
    • No man can EARN God’s gift
    • God alone is the SOURCE as well as the CHANNEL – yea the END of all things!
    • God is SOVEREIGN!
