“The Patriarchal Blessing” Genesis 49:8-10
Voddie Baucham said recently, “The Modern Church is producing passionate people with empty heads who love the Jesus they don’t know very well.”
Casual Christianity must have a casual Jesus, and the casual Jesus that casual Christians are casually worshipping today is like a “Therapeutic Life-Coach”: a supernatural friend that comes alongside his followers and shows them how to have their best life now; how to fulfill their dreams and achieve their life goal of having a full and meaningful life on this earth. This casual Jesus wants his followers to be happy, healthy, and comfortable, which is why he is compatible with living by worldly values and attending worldly events; those who follow this casual Jesus can fit right in with the world in every way and still be identified with him.
But, of course, the Holy Scriptures identify no such person as a casual Jesus. If you are counting on your faith in the Person and work of Jesus to be your Savior, you must believe in the historical Jesus; the Jesus that began as the Seed of Eve, who was, and is, the eternal Word of God; the divine Son of God, the second Person of the Triune Godhead, who became the Seed of Mary, the sinless Son of Man, fully God, fully man, who lived among us for 33 years, proving Himself to be the Savior sent from God through His miracles and ministry: Dying on the cross to pay the wages for our sins, and then rose again from the grave, proving He had the power over Satan, sin, and death.
