The Just Shall Live by Faith

“The Gospel from God” Romans 1:1-4

Date:August 25, 2024
Author: Wayne J. Edwards

Introduction:

You may find this hard to believe, but the greatest threat to Christianity today is not the government, another religion, or a self-indulgent society. The greatest threat to Christianity is today’s church—false preachers preaching a false gospel, resulting in a low view of God, a casual view of Christ, and a comfortable view of sin.

It cannot be stressed enough—our current understanding of “church” poses the most significant threat to true Christianity. It undermines the purpose and power of the gospel and it tarnishes the value of our worship of God. To witness a genuine revival in our time, which is unlikely, a second reformation is imperative. We must return to the authority, inerrancy, and sufficiency of the Holy Scriptures.

Sunday at 6:00 PM, we will continue our study of Paul’s letter to the Romans, “The Just Shall Live by Faith.” In this sermon, the Apostle Paul said his message was not of man but of God. Therefore, Paul was God’s man with God’s message for God’s people.

The Just Shall Live by Faith # 3
“The Gospel from God”
Romans 1:1-4

Wayne J. Edwards, Pastor

Paul:

  • A servant of Jesus
  • Called to be an Apostle
  • Separated unto the gospel of God

Gospel of God:

  • Promised by the prophets
  • Concerning His Son – Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ:

  • Seed of David – in the flesh
  • Declared to be the Son of God – by His resurrection
  • By whom we received grace and apostleship to take the gospel to the nations

Nations:

  • Among whom are ye also the called.

The Called:

  • Of Jesus Christ.
  • Beloved of God
  • Called to be saints

True Preaching:

“It’s not about the preacher.
It’s about the One being preached!
It’s not about the messenger!
It’s about the validity of the message being delivered.
It’s not about the man.
It’s about his representation and presentation of the
One who sent him!”

Paul said he had “good news” for those who were looking

for hope beyond the circumstances of their lives.

  • The Savior God promised in the Old Testament has come in the New Testament in the Person of Jesus Christ.
  • He fits the qualifications in two ways:

1.  He was made of the seed of David, according to the flesh.” – Verse 3

  • The word “was made” means “to become.”
  • John 1:1-14 – “The Word became flesh”
  • Hebrews 2:14-18 – “That through death He might destroy him that had the power of death.”

2.  He was “declared to be the Son of God.” – Verse 4

  • What separated Jesus Christ from every other man was not only His ability to raise others from the dead but His physical resurrection from the grave. That one event is the irrefutable proof of His deity.
  • That is the gospel message: The God-man, came as a man, and died for all men.
  • Paul says, those who confess that truth with their mouth and believe in their heart that God raised Jesus from the dead shall be saved and saved forever.
