Watchman Nee, a Chinese Christian leader was recognized by Christianity Today as one of the 100 most influential Christians of the 20th century. In one of his 72 books, Nee wrote:
“Outside of Christ, I am only a sinner, but in Christ, I am saved. Outside of Christ, I am empty; in Christ, I am full. Outside of Christ, I am weak; inside of Christ, I am strong. Outside of Christ, I cannot; in Christ, I am more than able. Outside of Christ, I have been defeated; in Christ, I am already victorious. How meaningful are the words, “in Christ!”
Beloved, if the Jesus you believe in hasn’t radically and drastically transformed your life from the inside out, you are believing in the Jesus of man’s religion, not the Jesus of the Bible. One can no more meet the Son of God and remain the same than a person can gaze directly into the sun and not be blinded by its glory.
The truth is, an encounter with the Lord Jesus will bring about a total transformation of life. The purpose of the gospels is to show us how those who truly met Jesus were completely changed – the blind received sight, the lame walked, outcasts were embraced, sinners were forgiven, the ashamed were restored, and the broken were made whole. From the abused woman at the well to the man who was possessed by demons – those who truly met Jesus were never the same, and it is still true today. As the Apostle Paul said in 2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore, if ANY MAN be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things become new.”
