“As it was in the Days of Noah”
Genesis 6:1-4
Wayne J. Edwards, Pastor
The prevailing question on the minds of many younger Christians today is, “Will the Nephilim return in the last days?”
- In Genesis 6:1-4, the Nephilim are the fallen angels who appear as the “offspring of the sons of God.” These were rebellious angels who were called “watchers.”
- In Numbers 13:33, the Nephilim were the giants that the 12 spies saw when they entered the land of Canaan. They were also called Anakim or the Anakites – men so tall that the Jews looked like grasshoppers compared to them.
- In Ezekiel 32:27, the Nephilim were referred to as great warriors like the giant Goliath, who, when killed in battle, were buried with their swords under their heads.
- The Nephililm are the unfathionable figures of great size and great power, with interpretations ranging from angel-human hybrids to simply extraordinary humans of great size.
In Matthew 24:37, Jesus told His disciples, “As it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be when the Son of Man comes.” Some interpret that verse to mean that the Nephilim will return as well.
- Just as the “fallen angels” mated with the daughters of men and produced the Nephilim just prior to the flood, they believe there will be another attempt to corrupt the human genome just prior to the Lord’s return, producing a hybrid race of giant-like creatures.
- Others argue that the Nephilim will not be produced through the human reproductive system, as in Genesis 6:1-4, but rather through Artificial Intelligence, genetic editing, transhumanism, and transgenderism.
- However, while some of the facts can be inferred from the Bible, and it is possible to see how they could be percieved to be true, none of the projected theories are supported from the Bible, and therefore, we must reject them.
- In Genesis 7:13, 1 Peter 3:20, and 2 Peter 2:5, the Bible clearly states that only eight people – Noah and his family, were the only ones to survive the world-wide flood, for God’s intentions were to destroy the whole wicked population.
- In Jude 1:6 and 2 Peter 2:4, the Bible says that the fallen angels who were responsible for the Nephilim are currently in chains.
- The most accepted interpretation of Jesus’ prediction that the days just before His return would be like those just prior to the flood is that the world would be filled with wickedness, evil, violence, and a lack of love for mankind – not the presence of hybrid beings.
- However, in Revelation 9:1-11 and Revelation 12:12, the Bible says there will be a major surge in demonic activity during the Tribulation, characterized by the release of evil spirits to deceive, torment, and destroy humanity.
- Revelation 9:1-11 describes demonic creatures emerging from the bottomless pit.
- Revelation 12:12 explains this intensification occurs because Satan knows his time is short.
- Before he died, Dr. John MacArthur preached a sermon from Revelation 9:12-21 regarding “The Coming Demonic Invasion.”
- The Bible is clear that, as we get closer and closer to the time of Tribulation, there will be a rise in demonic activity, and pastors Greg Laurie and Jack Hibbs have said that such demonic activity is already increasing.
On Background:
- Angels were created by God to serve and worship Him – they were there on the days of creation.
- At some point after creation, there was a massive rebellion among the angels, led by Lucifer, the highest angel and the worship leader of the heavenly host.
- God cast Lucifer out of heaven because of his rebellion, and a third of the angels went with him.
- Lucifer transformed himself into a serpent so beautiful that he deceived Adam and Eve into rebelling against God.
- God sentenced Satan (Lucifer) to crawl on his belly forever, and the whole human race was subjected to sin, corruption, and death.
- In the New Testament, demons increased their activity in an attempt to destroy the One who will soon destroy them, and that demonic activiy is now against the Church – the Body of Christ.
- Today, we have the children of God and the children of Satan, and what we are seeing in our culture is the battle between the two, with a continual rise in demonic activity.
- Just as Lucifer came down and deceived Adam and Eve into rebelling against God, in Genesis 6, Moses described the first massive demonic invasion upon humans – rebellious angels taking human wives and producing demonic beings, and the wickedness of man became so great that God said they were unredeemable, and He cleansed the whole earth with water.
- According to biblical chronology, the Great Flood occurred 4,500 years ago, and while mankind has made some outstanding achievements, the entire culture is incurable because of sin.
- The wickedness of man is on the rise, which is the evidence of a rise in demonic activity – it is the only answer for the depth of depravity being exposed today – “As it was in the days of Noah,” so IT IS in the world today.
- When the wickedness of man had reached the point where the people deliberately and intentionally engaged in demonic activity, even yielding their human bodies to demon possession, God said He would no longer strive with man, and He washed them from the earth.
- Since we see such human-demonic activity in the world today, can it be much longer until God cleanses the earth with fire?
