Isaiah

In Isaiah 9:1-7. Isaiah announces that, whereas the people were living in darkness, and filled with distress and despair, there would come a time when the people of God would be overflowing with happiness and joy. And then the prophet gave three reasons for their expectation of joy.

  • The Rod of the Oppressor Will Be Broken – God’s people will be liberated from all of their enemies.
  • Warfare will be eliminated – even the implements of war will be refurbished into useful tools.
  • The Promise of a Child – a Future King – the fulfillment of God’s promise to Adam, that the Seed of the woman would crush the head of the serpent (Gen. 3:15), and God’s promise to Abraham, that through His offspring, all of the families of the earth would be blessed. (Gen. 12:3)
