Inspiration—Backsliding
There are certain steps in backsliding. Read the passages below and chart the course.
Step 1—2 Timothy 3:7-8—“Resist the truth!”
Step 2—2 Corinthians 11:13-15—“False apostles, deceitful workers”
Step 3—2 Peter 2:14-22—“Turn from the Holy Commandment”
(Once a person has REJECTED the truth of God’s Word, they are open to the lies of FALSE apostles and DECEITFUL workers. If they continue in that journey, they will eventually TURN from the Holy Commandment)
Exodus 32:1-6 lists all three steps:
Step 1 (vs 1)—The people rejected God’s appointed leader by not being willing to wait upon him to return from the mountain where he had been with God.
Step 2 (vs 4)—The people turned to another god, fashioned to their liking—a sensual god that would allow them to have fun while they worshipped.
Step 3 (vs 6)—The people worshipped God in a false way.
Application—Repent
- What Biblical truth are you resisting right now?

- Loving your husband/wife/neighbor?
- Witnessing?
- Consistent Prayer? Lifestyle?
- Purity?
- Entertainment?
- Affections?
- Church Attendance?
- How were you deceived into believing Satan’s lie about this issue?
- Describe the result of neglecting God’s truth in your life in this one area.
Application—Return
- Memorize 2 Corinthians 10:4-5
- Repeat this verse in prayer to God and praise Him for His deliverance.
