Inspiration—Backsliding
The Bible describes backsliding as “turning away from God to other (false) gods!” the passages of scripture below give us some reasons why we are tempted to turn away from God. Read the passage and see if you can discover the reason given.
- Proverbs 16:18—“Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.”
- 2 Peter 1:5-9—(vs9)—“But he that lacks these things, is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.”
- Exodus 17:1-7—(vs 7)—“Because of the contention of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the Lord, saying, ‘is the Lord among us?’”
- Mark 4:13-19—(vs 19)—“And the cares of this world , and the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires of other things entering in, choke in the word, and it becometh unfruitful.”
- Matthew 13:18-21—(vs 21)—“…for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the Word, by and by, he is offended.”
