Developing a Biblical Worldview
“The Handprint of God”
Genesis 1:1-2:3
Wayne J. Edwards, Pastor
In developing our Biblical Worldview, Christians cannot cede the Book of Genesis just because it differs with the accepted science of evolution!
-
- The same God who said He loved the world so much that He sent His only begotten Son to be our Savior, is the same God who said He created the world, and everything that is in it, in six literal days.
- To accept any other theory contrary to that is to discredit the inerrancy of Holy Scripture and therefore to doubt the integrity of the God who wrote it.
- From the never-ending darkness of the heavens, to the smallest cell in our bodies, God has revealed His Holy Handprint.
- To reject such irrefutable evidence is not ignorance – it is arrogance!
The first step in developing a Biblical Worldview is to get a Biblical view of God, and God has revealed Himself to all mankind in three unique ways:
-
- Natural or General Revelation – through His work of creation – Romans 1:19-20, Psalm 19:1-3
- Written Revelation – through the divinely inspired, infallible and inerrant Word of God – 2 Peter 1:19-21, 2 Timothy 3:15-17
- Physical Revelation – the incarnation of Christ – John 1:1-14, Hebrews 1:1-3, John 14:9
1. The Eternal Nature of God – Romans 1:20 – “The invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead!”
Paul identified the “invisible things of God” as:
-
- God’s Eternal Power:
- Since nothing new has been created, that rules out any kind of “natural” processes.
- Since the universe continues to operate, that rules out any kind of temporal power.
- Since old beings die and new being are born, of the same kind, that proves the universe is being sustained by a self-existing; all-powerful being, and that being is “Elohim” – or God!
- The Godhead – refers to the Triune Nature of God – One God – co-existing in three co-equal and co-eternal entities or persons.
- All three were involved in creation –
- God the Father as the Master Designer –
- God the Spirit hovered over the sea –
- God the Son as the Word of creation –
- All three are revealed in creation –
- God the Father – the invisible space –
- God the Son – the physical matter –
- God the Spirit – by which the universe is maintained and experienced –
2. The Eternal Greatness of God – Psalm 19:1 – “The heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament sheweth His handywork!”
Astronomers estimate that there are over 100 billion stars in our galaxy alone, and ours is one of at least 400 billion galaxies.
-
- Psalm 147:4 – God knows the exact number of stars He created, and He knows them by name.
- Isaiah 45:12 – God stretched out the heavens and set the stars in their place.

“God said…Let there be Light” The Galaxy that contains our solar system is called the “Milky Way”
-
100,000 light years across
-
25,000 light years from earth
|
|
The Whirlpool Galaxy is called the “Darling of Astronomy.”
-
60,000 light years across
-
31 million light years away from earth
|
|
Through the Hubble Telescope, astronomers discovered a black hole near the edge of the Whirlpool Galaxy. As they snapped the first picture, the debris being sucked into that hole gave the image of a cross.

In May, 2003, NASA Posted their “picture of the day” – Helix Nebula – a trillion-mile-long tunnel of glowing gasses. Workers at NASA called it the “Eye of God.”
|
|
God created the sun to rule the day:
-
93 million miles from earth
-
10,000 degrees on its surface
-
8 minutes from sun to skin
-
109 times larger than earth
|
|
The 9th brightest star in the universe is called Betelgeuse:
-
427 million light year from earth
-
Twice the size of the earth’s orbit around the sun
|
|
The star called Mu Cephei:
-
3,000 light years from earth
-
The width of two golden-gate bridges end to end
-
2.7 trillion earths can fit inside of it
|
|
The largest star known to man is called Canus Majoris or “Big Dog!”
-
3,900 light years from earth
-
1,700,000,000 miles in diameter
-
As tall as Mount Everest
-
7 – Quadrillion earths can fit inside of it.

PSALM 8:3-9
“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made:
My substance was not hidden from thee, when I was made in
secret. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect;
and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance
were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them!”
Biblical truths for a Biblical Worldview:
- It was God who made man, and not man who made God.
- It was God who made man something glorious and not man who glorifies himself through what he does.
- It was God who made man for His purpose, and not man who uses God to accomplish his purpose.
3. The Eternal Majesty of Man – Psalm 139:14-16 – “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: My substance was not hidden from thee, when I was made in secret. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them!”
What the Hubble Telescope did to show God’s handprint in the creation of the universe, the lighted, electron microscope did to reveal God’s handprint in the creation of mankind.
- The human body is made up of trillions of cells that work together; each one containing the complete complex plan of our DNA, which dictated and described everything God designed and ordained each one of us to be.
